Moederdagweekend
Maandag 10 mei 2010
Woo Hoo ! Great game girls ! Wow, we are all very proud of the way you played. You guys are a lot of fun !
Saturday’s recap:
* A brilliant, but cool Calgary morning greeted us as we arrived at our home diamond
* The fans were already starting to congregate, with some eager to nab an autograph as the Huskies arrived individually with their favourite limo drivers
* The West Valley Huskies looked sharp in their blue uniforms and custom fitted team caps, freshly imported from Scenic Acres and the Ursem Hat Factory LLC
* The line-up looked good on paper and proved even better on the field.
* Hurler Halie Ferguson, now up with the big team after playing her minor ball in Vancouver, was the starting pitcher for the home opener
* Without wasting any time, Halie, with pigtails dancing, struck out the first 3 of 4 batters. The Huskies never looked back.
* The first “Airdrie 3″ hitter to get on base, barely made it to first after Eline “The Gun” Ursem made a clean fielding play and fired the ball to Olivia who was ready and waiting at first.
* Lead-off hitter Sarah “Speedy Gonzalez” Chan, played her role perfectly, drilling a single into the infield and cleanly beating the throw to first with her lightning speed.
* Up next was Halie and she wasted no time in knocking in the first home run of the season for the Huskies – a two run shot to left field.
* Makenna “Hammer Time” Woitas was in the 3rd spot and ripped the first of two long-balls into the left field stands, sending two home-town fans away with coveted souvenirs
* The Huskies’ number 5 hitter, Jessica “JayDub” Williams stepped to the plate and proceeded to line a screamer to short and then stole second, third and home to score the 4th and final run of the inning.
* In the second inning Ella took advantage of a great opportunity to hit a screamer at Coach Steve’s head (we’ll talk about this one at home Ella!)
* As a defensive specialist, Olivia showed her prowess as she deftly held the opposing players tight to the 3rd base bag, preventing any easy advances to home plate.
* In the third inning, Kaitlin took a high, hard fastball and easily put it into play. Smart on the base paths, Kaitlin then proceeded to taunt the authorities by stealing 2nd and 3rd base without even drawing a throw.
* Cruising to an 8-4 victory, the Huskies showed power at the plate, speed on the base paths and a very strong and impressive defense at all positions.
Special Mention: Samantha “Sling shot” Lamb was not able to make this game, however based on what the scouts have been seeing in her pre-season play, the Huskies will power up with her at the plate and on
the mound.
Great job girls !
